MORNING CLASS (3 DAY AM)

Children grow and learn at an astonishing rate. A first school experience should be an extension of the love and care they have at home.

The 3-Day AM class often serves as a first “out of home” school experience for young children. The class emphasizes beginning independence, creative interactive play, learning centers, experiential art, stories, literacy, music, laughter, and fun.

This class is taught by experienced, well educated teachers and features small class sizes and a ratio of 6:1, but is usually closer to 4:1.

To attend 3 Day AM, children must be 3 years old by September 1st (though exceptions are made for children with fall birthdays to start late on their 3rd birthday if space allows), and because Jean Lyle is not licensed for diapering, must be potty trained by the first day of school.

Teachers in this class hold these credentials:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art/Art History, k-12 teaching license, Baking/Pastry Diploma & experience teaching all age groups, including college level, 3 years experience teaching preschool at Jean Lyle

  • A bachelor’s degree in Psychology (minor in Spanish), a Master’s Level Degree in Social Work, 2 years of experience teaching preschool at Jean Lyle

  • A bachelor’s degree in Philosophy/Educational Studies/Studio Art, First year teaching at Jean Lyle after working with us as a student while attending Macalester College in 2023-24

AFTERNOON CLASS (3 DAY PM AND W & F PLAY GROUP)

Young children in our afternoon preschool learn in a mixed-age, play-based environment with a focus on social and emotional development and school skills.

This mixed-age class allows younger children the chance to attend two years in a row and offers older children the opportunity to take on leadership roles in the classroom. This class works especially well for families who prefer a shorter school week, and for children who are not early risers.

These classes are taught by an exceptional new teacher who worked with us as a student while attending Macalester College in 2023-24.

Teachers in this class hold these credentials:

  • A bachelor’s degree Educational Studies & English, second year at Jean Lyle

The teachers love the children and value their individual interests and skills. They go above and beyond to make each of the kids feel special. As such the kids truly love being at Jean Lyle.

If I had to imagine a better place for a kid to start school than this, I’d be hard pressed to conceive of a place.
